Offensive tackle Tarik Glenn will not be back to help the Indianapolis Colts defend their Super Bowl title, according to several people close to the 10-year veteran, choosing instead to retire.
This is huge...This means the Colts, a team that is built upon giving Peyton time to carve up a defense will be starting a rookie project at left tackle with the responsibility of protecting Peyton's blind side...
Do not underestimate how much this will affect the offense...There will almost assuredly be more pass protection left in (tight end, fullback, etc) to shield the rookie, Tony Ugoh, and will allow the defense an extra defender to cover Harrison and Wayne...
The 2nd most important player on their team just retired, huge would be an understatement of how drasticly this may effect the Colts. Glenn doesnt get the credit of a Pace, Odgen, or Jones, but he's right up there with them (could argue he's better than Pace).
Now the move for Oguh makes a lot more sense, but wow will this hurt this year.
Wow... I'm glad I got the 2nd pick in my draft so I can take Steven Jackson. I was very high on Joseph Addai but this is going to affect that offense alot. I remember Peyton complaining about protection problems when the Steelers knocked them out of the playoffs en route to their Super Bowl win. I can see alot of that happening again.
I'll be the third to state that this is a huge question mark now for the Colts. I didn't hear much about this being a possibility but I guess the Colts had some fear hence their moving to get Ugoh. But I also think that this is going to hurt Addai as much if not more than Manning. If memory serves, and I'm sure a few Colts fans can confirm or deny my recollection, the Colts RB's got a decent chunk of their yardage running towards Glenn's side with stretches and the like.
Now that you have a rookie protecting Manning's blind side and anchoring what was the strong side of the line, I have to knock Manning's and Addai's value down slightly. This is a prime example of one of the situations you need to pay close attention to in preseason to see how Ugoh handles the duties.
This could be major, Peyton rarely gets touched and always has a ton of time to throw. This could be the season where Manning finally gets roughed up a bit.

You have to wonder if it might help Addai's receiving stats even if it hurts his rushing stats though. If Peyton doesn't have time to throw, he will dump it off alot to Addai. That's what happened in the Super Bowl last year. Still, I think you gotta take all Colts players down a notch now.
You gotta think Dungy, Manning, etc. will try like h**l to talk him out of it, and if that fails, that the Colts will acquire a veteran tackle PDQ. (although there's likely not much out there FA-wise)
BIG News.
