Keeper League Expansion Issue

We allow 3 keepers per year with a maximum of 3 years of keeping a player. After reaching the 3rd ytear maximum his "contract" has expired and must be placed back into the draft. The first 3 rounds of the draft are for those owners who choose not to keep 3 players to fill out their protected list. They must choose players who do not havce expired contracts as a drafting of a player in the first 3 rounds extends a year to the player's contract. The draft in the 4th round begins with the worst team from the previous year with the champion from the previous year having the last pick. The league is choosing to expand to 10 teams from 8 this year and we are tryignt o figure out where to put these teams in the draft.

One idea was to allow the existing 8 teams to only protect 2 players and have those teams draft players from the existing teams with no team losing more than one player. They would then be placed at the end of the 1st round and start of the 2nd round as it is a snake draft.

Any other ideas?

Yes, that is pretty much the standard way to expand a league. If you keep 3, then have the owners protect 2 and no team can lose more than 1 player
