knowing draft position ahead of time in a keeper league...

how do you guys feel about knowing your draft position ahead of time in a keeper league? the commisioner in my league feels you should find out only 10 minutes before the first pick because its fun and exciting and it adds a variable that owners cannot control. i want to know earlier.

I could care less either way but I'm probably in the minority. I just roll with the punches and draft value.....if you try to have a plan going in you will more than likely be struggling to change that plan in the middle of the draft anyway.

Do a few mock drafts before hand and you shoud be ready enough regardless of where you are in the draft order.

I think you should know draft position ahead of time. It gives you lots of time to think about your pick/possible picks after yours. It's much easier to prepare and do mock drafts if you already know your draft spot. Finding out 10 minutes before just seems silly to me.

this league is a 10 team league expanding to 12 teams. we are allowed to protect 4 players and keep 2 of them. the unprotected players go into a pre draft for the 2 new teams so they have a chance. my concern is that i have a 5 late round keepers plus reggie bush as a first round option. if i know my draft position, i could possibly pick bush and keep two other players rather then keep him and one other.

I like knowing ahead of time, but I think the real question is: why don't you know the draft order if it is a keeper league? It should be the reverse of the final standings from the prior year, so you should know your draft position.

Not necessarily. Our keeper league is a little different. We award the winner of the losers bracket the opportunity to pick where he wants to pick in the next years draft...then the secon place guy in the losers bracket picks his position on down to the worst finisher. Then the last place guy in the championship bracket gets to choice his draft slot on up to the champion. This way if you are in the losers bracket you are essentially still trying to win for the sack of getting the first pick....if you want it. It usually goes right in order but not always, some guys like to pick later in the draft, etc. Its pretty fun!




For anyone that cares on more specifics of how we set up our draft/league....we are a 12 team league with 3 divisions of 4. The top 3 finishers each year are put into their own division and they take turns picking who they want in there league...like a mini draft of who belongs in which division. Its fun and creates alot of smack talk! So the winners of each division make the playoffs then the next 3 highest finishers complete the 6 playoff teams. One division "could" have all there teams in the playoffs and only the two other division winners being the other teams. Anyway, for whatever its worth, I figured I'd throw that in. Take it or leavie it.
