for all of you non peyton drafters out there, content to grab stud RBs and WRs in the first few rds and wait on a QB....when is the earliest you WOULD jump on peyton?
i got to thinking about this, and if everyone at the draft has the same mindset, he has to be worth it at some point.
for standard scoring 12 team...i would think it wouldnt be until the LT/SJ owners are on their second or third RD picks...being as they are prolly the only guys w a sure rock solid RB
For me, Manning starts looking attractive once we get past the top-13 RB's (in some order):
(1) L. Tomlinson (2) S. Jackson (3) F. Gore (4) J. Addai (5) L. Johnson (6) S. Alexander (7) W. Parker (8) R. Johnson (9) B. Westbrook (10) R. Bush (11) L. Maroney (12) W. McGahee (13) T. Henry
All the remaining backs have significant question marks... Edge, Ronnie Brown, Brandon Jacobs, Cedric Benson, Thomas Jones, MJD, Clinton Portis, etc...
And, this year, I think the WR position is deep enough that you don't significantly hamper yourself by waiting until the 4th or 5th to start picking them up...
Early second round for me, especially if I get a RB that I like alot (Alexander, Henry, Maroney). If I get a Rudi Johnson or Joseph Addai I would probably jump and get another RB just to be safe.
I always find that I am satisfied with my team when I take a ton of RBs and WRs early, so I have never taken Manning in a draft. That being said, I'd probably take him in the third round if I picked up two RBs in the first two rounds. He will never fall that far though, so I probably won't ever take him.
Kudos to Leber for the amazing sig and to Metroid for the userbar and making them both fit 2008 and 2009 Defunct Dynasty League Champion

I just took Manning with the 7th pick in the 2nd round of a ten team league.. I wasnt too keen on it, but it seemed to be the best value pick for the spot (granted I grabbed LJ with the 4th overall pick, but I dont think he'll hold out, and its a keeper)

Not bad Plindsey...I have Peyton 13th, with the same top 12(in some order) as you
Honestly, I expect a Manning closer to his 2005 numbers than his 2006 numbers. As such, I think he's a borderline pick around number 8 overall.
My top 7 are LT S-Jax LJ Gore Addai Parker Alexander
Then I'd give Manning a long look, but still might pass in favor of Westbrook, Maroney, or Henry. I'd definitely rather have Manning than Rudi, call me crazy if you want to.
Conclusion- somewhere between 8th and 11th. He'll be a first round pick in my 12 team league this year, probably going 8th overall. I have the fifth pick, so I'll be taking his backfield mate in all likelihood.
