Should I add another Bench Spot?

Postby jebatzel » Wed Aug 22, 2007 8:44 am

I want to be fair and give enough of a bench to help with byes and injuries.

There are 11 positions and 8 bench at this point.

QB, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, RB/WR, K, D, D, D

So I need to either take away a bench spot or add one to have even number of rounds for the draft.

What should I do?

In the past I have been adding bench spots right after the draft and let people use waivers to put up any extra players they want.

8 spots look like enough. Why do you have to draft an even # of rounds?

I don't have to have even number just makes it more even.

The person picking 1st get more of an advantage too. If there was 19 rounds they would have the first pick of that round. 20th rounds they get last pick.

For my league we have a ratio of starters to Bench players that roughly equals that of the NFL. Ours is 9 starters/7 bench, or just slightly under half as many bench as starters.

For your league I'd recommend adding the ninth bench spot to balance things out.

Especially if you're doing a Snake you want an even number so the "weight" of the draft balances out. With an odd number of rounds you end up with one side of your draft having more early-round picks. With an even number that balances out, with the first guy drafting also drafting last, the second guy drafting second to last, and so on.

If you're doing a Straight draft the number of rounds is really irrelevant.
