Yeah, this is a well-known bug. I suspect empedocles is correct about the cause...it happens when you do not pre-rank the maximum number of players allowed. How many players did you pre-rank, Fade?

At least in my case I've always ranked 150 players (10 teams x 15 roster spots, including bench), and excluding kickers has worked flawlessly all 4 times I've tried it.

I had to miss my draft, too, and excluded all kickers from my prerankings. I ended up with these same four players:

Brandon Miree
Bradlee Van Pelt
Jason Dunn
Eric Moulds

Miree was taken for me by the comp before guys I had ranked (Lendale White, Kevin Jones, and a couple others). Van Pelt was taken before Jake Delhomme, JP Losman, and Alex Smith. Dunn was taken ahead of Randy McMichael (who I had ranked pretty high among TEs) and Eric Johnson.

Overall, I ended up with a pretty good starting roster, but no depth. Yahoo autopick is terrible joke.

Oh well, lesson learned.

Here's what I got, drafting 4th in a yahoo autodraft, in a league that's ridiculously small, and with way too many roster spots. A friend opened up a league and asked me to join, so I thought "why not?"

In any event, this was the result of putting about 25 RBs ranked at the top, 30 or so WR after, then QB, etc.

1. (4) Shaun Alexander RB
2. (9) Willie Parker RB
3. (16) Brandon Jacobs RB
4. (21) Terrell Owens WR
5. (28) Larry Fitzgerald WR
6. (33) Anquan Boldin WR
7. (40) Marc Bulger QB
8. (45) Tony Gonzalez TE
9. (52) Adam Vinatieri K
10. (57) Pittsburgh DEF
11. (64) Ahman Green RB
12. (69) Adrian Peterson RB
13. (76) LaMont Jordan RB
14. (81) Darrell Jackson WR
15. (88) Mark Clayton WR
16. (93) Bernard Berrian WR
17. (100) Matt Hasselbeck QB
18. (105) Heath Miller TE
19. (112) Josh Brown K
20. (117) Jacksonville DEF

Pretty funny roster. It's probably the second best... the guy who drafted 1 got Peyton and LT, and it's pretty scary looking the whole way through. Yeah, I know I gotta think about trading Boldin or Fitz. :)

My latest autodraft (starters in bold):

QB: C. Palmer, M. Leinart
RB: W. Parker, T. Henry, T. Jones, C. Williams, A. Green, W. Dunn, K. Jones
WR: L. Coles, V. Jackson, M. Clayton
TE: A. Crumpler
D/ST: CHI, JAX
K: none

The WRs suck, but that's some sick RB depth for a 10-team league that can start 3 RBs. Don't give up on the exclude kickers strategy, guys. Yes, autodraft sucks, but you still get a good team with it. If you're going to try it in a league that matters I'd recommend testing it in a nothing league first to make sure you've done the pre-rankings correctly to avoid the Miree/Van Pelt/etc. bug.

the problem is more when you're forced to auto-draft against a bunch of live drafters (note, forced = girlfriend made me go visit friends of hers over the weekend... without internet. Wow I wish I had an iPhone... :-? ) I ended up thrilled with my starting lineup, but my backups are crap thanks to the K/DEF picks handicapping me two rounds. Anyone want Kevin Jones as their ONLY backup RB when Deuce Macallister was available two rounds earlier (when my autodraft chose Shane Graham...)
Best... fantasy advice... EVER. :D
