Having to start a sub par TE...any advice?

Postby Max Power » Fri Sep 21, 2007 4:23 pm

I imagine I am not alone in having to roam the wire for a TE to start.

I have LJ smith in one league and bo scaife in the other. As one may imagine, I am not too thrilled.

to make matters worse, its not like there is ever much talent at the TE spot on the wires.

I'll assume most owners in my spot are looking at the same couple guys right now and wanted to get some views on this group.

Chris Baker (NYJ) - I really dont want to have to go here, but it is one option.

Alex Smith (TB) - IMO he might be the best one out there. Could be the #2 guy if Hilliard misses time.

Donald Lee / Franks (GB) - If it was only one guy at this position, he would be a solid start, but a TEBC is mindblowing

Zach Miller (OAK) - has skills and does get looks, but is still a rookie.

Marcedes Lewis (JAX) - I really dont want a JAX WR, let alone a TE.

Bo Scaife (TEN) - I bought into the hype once.

Ben Utech (IND) - sad that a #2 TE on a team could be worth something

David Martin (MIA) - I really dont know much about him. I guess he is primarily a blocker

Matt Spaeth (PIT) - Only on the rader for his 3 catches 2 TDs

Anyone else worth a consideration? Im thinking Alex Smith might be the best of the group.

Thoughts?

Advice?
Oh, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent. Fourty percent of people know that.

in my 16 man league I have the same problem.

FWIW, Martin is a receiver not a blocker. I believe he played WR in college...

I just picked up Alex Smith and dropped Martin, but I don't feel real good about it and wouldn't have had transactions cost any money in that league.

Marcedes Lewis is not available in that league...

I am in another with Heath Miller and Randy McMichael and they could almost join that list. Neither has been doing much. Spaeth keeps taking Miller's scores

i still like scaife. tennessee has no WR threats, vince young loves to use his TE's and they were college teammates. Plus he has a solid matchup on MNF.

Second that. NO's LBs aren't great and Young's gonna be looking for his TEs first since he has jack at the WR position.
