Is that against the rules? I've seen mods do it, so I figured it was ok. I thought it was only bad when your website does it. When posters do it, it just promotes the site you're linking too, doesn't it?

The problem with hotlinking is that the website you're linking to can change their images or remove them all together, also I think it steals bandwidth or something like that...I don't really even know what that means I think I just read it somewhere.
And yup thats the procedure I go through every time but it really doesn't take long at all, besides what the hell else am I doing.

Exactly. That's the danger of hotlinking. You may "think" you're posting up a pic of Jessica Alba or whatever, and since it's in your cookies, that's what you see, but many webmasters out there swap out the pic with some sort of disgusting porn or something horribly bloody and brutal to "punish" those that hotlink.
Hotlinking = bad, very bad.

Yea....I know someone that always hotlinks....they didnt know that all that could happen. They were just too lazy to do the photobucket thing most times. Ill make sure to let them know that hotlinking is not the way to go.
Imageshack toolbar for Firefox or Internet Explorer either one. It takes like two clicks to host an image whether its online of on your computer. Super Easy.
