First of all, keep in mind that it's a free world and a free site, so if you feel like challenging your fellow Cafe graphics artists in some kind of avatar contest or signature battle, you can go by whichever terms you like. The following rules however apply if you want to organize an *official* Cafe signature contest. The main difference is that a winner of such a contest qualifies for an Award-Winning Graphics Expert icon.
Over the years, the Cafe has become a hotspot for uncounted excellent computer artists - but who is THE best? To find out, the Fantasy Football Cafe hosts several signature contests throughout the season. An official sig contest can be run by any Cafe member who either sports a graphics expert icon or a Cafeholics mug (or both).
A total of six (6) contests can be run per season:
- AUGUST: Preseason Warmup (Start: August 1)
- SEPTEMBER: BIG SIG Championship (Start: September 1)
- OCTOBER: Halloween Clash (Start: September 28)
- NOVEMBER: Turkey Chase (Start: October 25)
- DECEMBER: Xmas Challenge (Start: November 25)
- JANUARY: Postseason Showdown (Start: January 2)
If you would like to run one of the above contests, please post a new thread on or after the respective start date
(see above) and let everyone know of your intentions. (Make sure that such a thread doesn't already exist - if somebody else beat you to it, post to that thread instead of starting a new one.) After the initial thread is up, wait three days for others to chime in - if there are no other volunteers, running the contest is all yours.
Should there be several members wanting to run the same contest, the highest "authority" gets to do it (a member with a Cafeholics and an artist icon trumps a mere Cafeholic, and a Cafeholic trumps a mere graphics expert). If several prospects have the same authority, it's a matter of first come, first served.General Procedure
Running a contest is pretty much straight-forward. Post a brand new thread letting everyone know that the contest is now actually under way, and make sure you explain the precise rules along with a reference to this post.
Once the thread is up, contestants will have seven days to PM their sigs to the person running the show. Sigs must be created by the contestants themselves, and need to be fresh (i.e. may not have been shown at the Cafe before).
After the deadline, all sigs will be voted upon by Cafe members for a full week in a voting poll. After those seven days are over, the voting will be closed and the winner for each class (see below) will be announced.
To ensure fairness, the member holding the contest is not eligible to enter. The sigs must not show the name or logo of the contestant (also makes it fun to guess who made which sig). After the contest is over, the authors will be revealed, and they can add their names to the sigs.
All contest winners will receive sig contest winner icons as well as the appropriate tags to go with them.Types of contests
The BIG SIG Championship is where we crown the absolutely best artist of the year. The theme of your sig may be anything you would like, as long as it's football related.
Unlike the BIG SIG, the smaller contests typically have a theme given: for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Xmas, it's obvious; for the Preseason and Postseason contests, the theme is at the discretion of the person holding the contest (e.g. QBs, RBs, NFL Teams, NFL Legends, etc.). We have chosen early start dates to make sure that members have a chance to sport those sigs while they are still up to date - please keep this in mind when running a contest. If time is running short and sigs would be outdated by the time the contest is finished, the contest should not be held in the first place.Entry classes
For the BIG SIG, there are two entry classes - a "Cafe" class and an "Open" class.
- Cafe Class: Sig must be 100x468 or smaller, file size must be under 12kb and no animation is allowed.
- Open Class: Sig must be 100x468 or smaller, there are no file size limitations and the sig can contain animation.
All other contests must include a Cafe Class - whether or not the Open Class is included as well is up to the person running that contest.
Generally, you may not enter more than 1 sig per class, so if a contest allows both classes, the most sigs you can enter in that contest is 2.
You may also not enter the same sig in both classes.
That's it - enjoy!
