Honestly, I thought it was some sort of pastry. But then I was wondering why the hell they were digging up a pastry and paying money for it.

Well, the money is going to charity.
Proceeds from the auction were to go to an Italian organization that helps sufferers of genetic diseases, a group that helps street children in London and Catholic charities in Macau.
I'm sure the street kids will be happy once they're told that the help is coming from some Ho who likes large fungi.
