Money: How to split it up

Total of $200 for the pot.

It was a $20 buy in amongst 10 people.

This is how I have split it up in recent years:

Regular Season

1st place: $60
2nd place: $50
3rd place: $40

Playoffs:
1st place: $50

Anybody think they have any better ideas? I personally like this one because I believe the teams that did the best for the longest stretch (aka The Regular Season) deserve more money than just the lucky team that happens to get hot in the playoffs.

I'm also an advocate of rewarding the consolation bracket winner with $10-$20. These owners can look forward to perhaps breaking even and it will cause less of a problem with issues like roster-dumping and collusion with other owners near the end of the season. I still think the League Champ should get the highest payout as that is the overrall goal isn't it?

I don't like that most of the $ go to the reg season results. Whats the point of a playoff then?

What we did this year was give our teams with the 2 best regular season records 1st Round Playoff BYE's, similar to what the NFL does.

Then we are awarding according to the following schedule all the prize pool $'s to the playoff teams (taking 6 teams total out of 18 to the playoffs and playing a 6 team tournament):

CHAMP = 40%
2nd (Championship Game Loser) = 24%
3rd = 9%
4th = 4.5%
5th = 1.5%
6th = 1%
