It's a big fairy tale. My "studs" killed my team last week. I didn't bench them. Had I done so, I would have EASILY been the 1st place team heading into the playoffs next week. This week, I benched Lee Evans and FWP, and lost. It's called (bad) luck. You gotta play what you gotta play.
Count me as another idiot who benched Addai because of the alleged "bad matchup." I sat him for Kolby Smith, who was supposed to run through Denver's rice paper defense. Fortunately I was on a bye week and didn't pay for my idiocy with my season. I am a proponent of always playing your best players irrespective of the matchup, but for whatever reason didn't follow my own advice. I guess because I had a free week I wanted to test the "best player versus best matchup" theory without suffering the consequences. Lesson reinforced. Play your best players. ALWAYS. There is nothing worse than having one of your top guys go off on your bench, and his replacement lay a huge egg in your starting lineup. Especially now.
I learned it hard this year - picked up Sidney Rice and played him over Marshall due to the match-up...I'd have gotten into the playoffs with a win - and with Brees tonight, I am down now only by 20 points....Marshall got 19, Rice got one PLUS, I was going to play MIN DEF and took someone else's advice to play Dallas instead - cost me another 21 points.... what a sick way to end the year. Hard to believe I have a championship from last year and a 2nd place team from my first year in.... My decisions totally blow these days
I love this thread...this is why I'll never buy into the "never bench your studs" mentality. I joined a small 8 man league and managed to draft Addai, Westbrook, S. Smith Chad Johnson and Gates...I never Benched myStuds....I've won 3 games this year.
I was contemplating benching Favre this past week -- in fact, many people recommended I bench him for some QB on the WW . . I am so glad I stayed with the studs . . got a nice outing from Favre and Jennings 100 yds and TD (2 plays)
Have won last 11 0f 12 and in semi finals this week!
wooo love it.
