I haven't picked up a Rolling Stone mag in years, but I'm guessing it's like MTV. Popularity contest and current trends. I recall Britney Spears being on their cover even.

That vocalist list is atrocious, too. Freddie Mercury is in the wrong spot, no matter how you look at it. Either he's NOT a "Metal" vocalist (which he isn't - he's an arena rock vocalist), or he should be #1 if he's going to be on that list at all. Robert Plant is aces, don't get me wrong, but nobody, and I mean NOBODY, could hold a candle to Freddie's vocalizations. The man was a freaking superhero of vocalists. NO WAY is he behind Bon freaking Scott, and Steven Tyler? Don't make me puke! Chris Cornell is good and all, but he has to be behind Mercury on this list. Rob Halford - great musician and good showman, but he's not even close to Freddie's league.
And what's up with Kevin Dubrow at 99? Did these people forget how many times they featured him in the 1980s or something?
Dee Snider at 83 - same question.
Jimi Hendrix at 79? Listen - either put Jimi at #69 or in the top ten, or don't even waste your time having him on your list.
David Bowie? Since when is David Freaking Bowie a "Metal" vocalist?
Rod Stewart - same question! Clearly these people have forgotten what Metal was.
Marilyn Manson ahead of ANY of these guys ^^^ is a travishamockery. Please.
David Lee Roth - top ten. Book it.
ORS - are you just trying to get us all riled up with these lists?
How 'bout them Huskers!

We were sending these around the office all morning. I had to share my frustration.

I saw Scott Stapp on that vocalist list.
And Mike Shinoda? He doesn't even sing, lol.
The cake is a lie.
