Head coach Mike Holmgren will return to the helm of the Seattle Seahawks for one final season in 2008.
"This is the last year of coaching," Holmgren said at a news conference on Tuesday. "And then probably after that I'll take some time off."
Holmgren was hesitant to project his future plans beyond the 2008 season.
"I want to give this one more shot with this team," he said. "We're going to go at this hard."
Seattle went 10-6 and won its fourth consecutive NFC West title in 2007 and will return the core of its team next season. The Seahawks' season ended with a 42-20 defeat to the Green Bay Packers in the divisional playoffs.
Five of the Seahawks' six division titles have come with Holmgren.
Holmgren, 59, has the most coaching victories in team history. His 16-season record with Green Bay and Seattle, where he arrived in 1999, is 170-110, one win behind Joe Gibbs for 10th in NFL history. Holmgren is 86-68 in nine seasons with Seattle. He passed Chuck Knox this season for most victories by a Seahawks coach.
