University of Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount has been reinstated to the Ducks’ football program for the start of spring practice, according to first-year head coach Chip Kelly.
Last year’s record-setting running back was suspended from the program on Feb. 10 for what the school’s former football coach Mike Bellotti termed “as a failure to fulfill team obligations.”
The senior-to-be finished last season as the team’s second-leading rusher with 1,002 yards, and broke the school’s single-season record for rushing touchdowns with 17.
Oregon is scheduled to open spring drills at 8:45 a.m. Monday (March 30).
Appears Boise State excited about the beatdown they're gonna get!
In Boise, they can't wait to get their hands on the Ducks
Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore riddled the Oregon secondary last season. In case you were wondering, they are pretty excited in Boise for that Sept. 3 game against Oregon in Bronco Stadium.
How excited?
The Idaho Statesman, Boise's daily newspaper, is counting down the seconds until kickoff.
It doesn't take much imagination to guess what kind of reaction the Ducks will get when they trot onto the Smurf Turf for the first time.
It's not every day that an established Pacific-10 Conference contender deigns to play in Boise, where the Broncos have been darned near impossible to beat.
There are a lot of ties between the two coaching staffs. Boise State defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox played at Oregon, on both sides of the ball. His brother was a very good UO tight end, and his dad is an Oregon legend.
Heck, Boise State coach Chris Petersen was an Oregon assistant and, for a long time, rumored to be the heir apparent to Mike Bellotti. Well, Bellotti stepped down and the job went instead to UO offensive coordinator Chip Kelly.
Now, Kelly has to begin his head-coaching career in one of college football's toughest environments.
Then, there is the bad blood lingering from what UO fans still contend was a late hit last year on Duck quarterback Jeremiah Masoli. Every time the subject comes up, Boise State fans see it as disrespect for the fact the Broncos came into Autzen Stadium and beat Oregon.
Oh boy, no wonder they are revving up for this already in Boise.
