Went to a fundraiser/banquet for JDRF (Junior Diabetes Research Foundation) last night at the Governor Hotel downtown. Man I wish I was loaded, there was so much cool Oregon Ducks stuff being auctioned off. Tons of player autographed stuff, Ed Dickson throwback, TJ Ward jersey, Walter Thurman III jersey. So I didn't get any auction items, but I did get an autograph. Kenny Wheaton was there to auction off one of his jerseys personally and he hung out for a while afterward. I just happened to have one of my Ducks hats with me, so I had him sign the bill. He was really cool, he even let me get a photo with him. Pretty awesome evening.
I also got to meet former Blazer Chris Dudley.
For those who aren't familiar with Kenny Wheaton, here is "The Pick." I still get the chills when I watch it.
Now I have to get a new Ducks hat...that was my favorite one.

Dude his jersey was auctioned off for something like $2,500.
I wish I was there.
"..... and the Nfl Fan in the back row bids ..... shannon? who is shannon? he's waving a picture printed off some website and .... dang .... she's hot .... SOLD to the Nfl Fan in the back!"
Ok, sorry. Just kidding... I probably wouldn't even try such a thing... except maybe for the jersey...
Yo, Met... thanks for the sig! GO DUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How do you feel about your new basketball coach? He's always been a decent Mo-Valley coach, and he's had competitive teams, but scuttlebutt around here is that Altman wasn't your first (or second, or third, or fourth) choice. Any info you Oregonians can fill in for me?

Altman most certainly wasn't Oregon's first (or second, or third, or fourth) choice. Oregon was seriously reaching for a big name coach. We have a lot to offer, big paycheck, shinny new arena, Nike backing, decent current players and recruits. Sadly none of the Tom Izzo's, Mike Anderson's, Billy Donovan's, Tubby Smith's, among others were interested. I blame a good portion of this on there being no athletic director in place, and the Oregon supreme courts investigation on the Mike Bellotti pay out. Why would a big name coach leave a job where they know who they're answering to, a job where they are adored by their AD's, for one where they have no idea who their boss is going to be?
I'm OK about the Altman hire I guess. Mostly because it means the search is finally over. Yeah he's a decent coach, but honestly I don't know that he's an upgrade from Ernie right now. We'll see. As much as I love Kent he obviously wasn't getting it done and a change needed to be made. Altman is a winner and I'm hopeful and optimistic he'll turn the program around.

I got nuthin. My interest in college hoops is casual at best.
However, ask me about the Costa/Thomas thing and you'll get an earful.
