That and because I played Mark Wahlberg's body double in the part. :-D

I'm not sure how Boogie Nights beat out Magnolia; a much better film. Probably because not enough people have seen Magnolia.

Departed benefited from 1) having an easy path to the finals and 2) because it's new and not enough young pups have seen enough of the other great movies in this battle. It's funny how Martin Scorcese (the director of The Departed) won best picture for Departed but not for Raging Bull or Goodfellas (Departed can't touch either one of those with a ten foot pole). In sports, we have a term for that: a make-up call.
