For once I would like to see the Buckeyes scrap the B.S out of conference schedule. Yeah I know that they play USC this year, but who else?
Look at USC's out of conference schedule this year:
Ohio State Virginia Notre Dame
Ohio State's out of conference:
USC Troy Ohio Youngstown State
Since when did the Buckeyes became Kansas St.? Schedule a few more losable games please? I'd like to see a team like Missouri or Texas Tech alongside tough games like USC, not gimme's like Youngstown.
Troy is actually a solid club man. They lost 4 games last season and three were to Arkansas, Florida, and Georgia. They only lost by 10 to UGA at UGA when UGA was in that run where they owned people.
I know that Troy is an up and coming program, but they are not Virginia or Nebraska and I don't think that it is a losable game at least not yet. If the Buckeyes want to keep them on their schedule, then cool, but at least throw out Ohio or Youngstown St. I know Tressel has ties to Youngstown, but give me a break a division 2 team has no business being on a prestigious program's schedule like Ohio State who plays in what I believe to be an average division like the Big 10. I would love to see the Bucks play one more losable out of conference game. They play USC this year and next, Va. Tech two years after that. Those are two solid out of conference game, but how about scheduling a team like South Florida or Louisville. Two good programs that the Buckeyes should beat, but could lose.
How is Ohio State's schedule a whole lot different then most teams? You can't throw out one team and say look this team did it why don't you. I'm of the opinion that if you play 1 hard out of conference team in a year, and you play in a decent conference, you are doing your scheduling duty. All teams need a couple cream puffs. Let's take a look at some other teams ooc schedules:
Michigan: Miami OH, Utah, Notre Dame, Toledo Wisconsin: Akron, Marshall, Fresno St., Cal Poly Illinois: Missouri, Western Illinois, Syracuse, Kent State
How about some teams in different conferences:
Georgia: Georgia Southern, Central Michigan, Arizona State LSU: Appalachian State, Troy, North Texas, Tulane Texas: Florida Atlantic, Texas-El Paso, Arkansas
Seems pretty similar to me. I've been critical of some teams schedules in the past but I don't see how anyone can be critical of a Big Ten and USC schedule.
One big time matchup is all you can hope for from a program like Ohio State. Don't forget that $$$ talks and programs like Troy and Ohio come play in the Shoe and don't get return visits. Gotta get in as many home games as possible. The college football world should be thanking Ohio State for having the balls to schedule big time games, what gets people more fired up than big time matchups like Ohio State vs Texas early the past couple years, or Ohio State vs USC the next couple? Then Oklahoma, Va Tech, Miami, Tennessee, California all lined up as well. OSU is at least giving people an OOC matchup to look forward to damn near every year which is more than most other schools can say.
