It pains me to say this, but Lung is right about Purify not helping Cincy's image. The kid has talent, but he won't stay out of trouble. Here are the first two headlines in today's sports section in the Lincoln paper:
Purify signs 2-year deal with Bengals
followed by
Prosecutors seek to revoke Purify probation
Purify could be a good possession receiver. He has good size, he's strong, he has good hands, and he can dish out punishment as well as absorb it. Only thing is, he drinks too darned much and he gets stupid when he drinks. He's on probation for a "fight" at a bar last year, he's been on probation and he allegedly went boozing in California (which is why they want to revoke his probation in that above headline), and he just got ticketed a couple of months ago here in town for being at a drunken stupid party.
I will say this as a caveat - in the past 12 months his brother and his ex-girlfriend, who he was still close to, were both shot and killed. Neither involved shenanigans on behalf of the victims; both seemed to be "wrong place, wrong time" incidents. Mo dealt with a lot of emotional garbage over the past year, and who knows how he's handling it. But that is not an excuse to be a drunken idiot.
If he can get his head fixed and stay clean he has a chance of being a decent NFL player, but right now he's just another headcase with a lot of excess baggage for a team (Cincy) to deal with. Of all the places the guy could go, this does not seem like the best fit, either for his needs or the team's needs.
How 'bout them Huskers!
