The Derby

Leaving tomorrow for Louisville, for the 134th running of the "most exciting 2 minutes in sports" Who do you guys like to win? I like Colonel John 1st; Big Brown 2nd; Gayego 3rd, to round out a nice trifecta. ;-D

I'm a weirdo around here. I'm from Kentucky yet I could really care less about UK Basketball and The Derby really doesn't do a lot for me either. I enjoy watching it, but when you live in Kentucky they spend a month hyping the thing up.

Same here with the Indy 500. I try to leave town Memorial Day weekend.

I don't bother with the Derby. Too much fanfare for two minutes of a race. It's more about being rich and glamorous and being seen than anything.

War Pass injured his leg in his last race. Was the front page story in the Lexington paper for two days.

I would love to watch the Derby, but I could care less about it if I am not there watching it or anything.

so did anyone win (or lose) big?

Looks like there's a problem with one of the horses.

edit: they had to euthanize it :,-(

Amazing for Big Brown to win by that much from the 20th pole position (first horse to win from 20th since 1929). The filly, 8 Belles ran an amazing race too, finished 2nd - too bad she broke both front ankles and to be put down.
