Why is Calico rated so high?

Postby Shai » Fri Oct 31, 2003 6:11 pm

Whenever I see projections for the rest of the year, I see Tyrone Calico often listed well above Drew Bennett. Many of these were from before Bennett's lastest injury. Why is that? Bennett is starting #2, and Calico is #4 with McCareins in between. That alone should make Bennett more valuable. He's going to be on the field more, and he's put up some good, albiet inconsistent, numbers. With Bennett possibly out for the next month, obviously Calico will probably have some better games, but he's still #4. Are these projections just gut feelings, or is there something I'm missing?

well, for now, Bennett is hurt, and Calico will receive more playing time. Calico is in fact the Titans #3 and not their #4. WIth Bennet out, Calico will get a shot to prove how much of an impact he will dish out at the #2 spot. I guess people here see his future as very bright.

Two reasons. 1. McNair is throwing to him. 2. 6'4" 225 with 4.3
speed and great acceleration. I don't think anyone knows how
good this kid can be with McNair throwing to him. He has a great
attitude to go with his talent. I have him on 3 of my 4 teams.
Haven't started him but 2 or 3 times so far, but I anticipate more
over the rest of the season.

I know that his value has increased a bit since Bennett got hurt, but I was reading that before his last injury. The reason I said he was #4 was this quote:

"Justin McCareins will take over Bennett's starting role, and rookie Tyrone Calico will see an increase in playing time as well."

From that it looks like he's #4, and moving up to #3.

Those sound like good reasons Xbird. Hopefully he will get to prove himself now while Bennett is out.

He's a big red zone target... i've been high on him this year as well, although I needed roster room and had to drop him while he's on a bye. Hopefully he'll still be there for me to pick up.

terpfan, watch out for homers is good advice, but I am very
aware of that fact. The Titans only have 5 players worth a spot
on any team- McNair and Mason are no brainers. McCareins and
Calico are viable # 3s and the Titans D is much better than
most think, lots of turnovers forced. If you are in a keeper league, Calico may be gold.

but the two recievers being debated are both titans? who better to get advice from than a tians fan? Calico is clearly the more talented WR of the two IMO and with a little time to polish himself up I think Calico will be great.

Yes, and I also notice his location as Nashville. That tells me that he sees a lot more of the Titans than me in NYC, and isn't just reading from a stats page. That gives me more reason to trust him. Same way that I can probably talk more knowledgeably about Giants and Jets players than him.
