Webb figures Chiefs’ starting spot up for grabs
By JEFFREY FLANAGAN
The Kansas City Star

Some people probably are just assuming that free-agent wide receiver Devard Darling will automatically nab one of the Chiefs’ starting spots.

Don’t count third-year pro Jeff Webb among those thinking that.

“If you go in thinking that you don’t have a chance to start,” Webb said last week after an OTA (organized team activity), “then you probably don’t have a chance.

“You have to believe in yourself, work hard and then take advantage of your opportunity. We only have one guaranteed starter, and that’s (Dwayne) Bowe. After that, it’s all about who performs the best.”

Webb, 26, has shown flashes of legitimate NFL talent, at least enough to get Chiefs fans and Chiefs coaches a bit curious. He was second on the team among wide receivers with 28 catches

I didn't really read the 1st page, but Devard Darling is a name to keep your eye on...He should become their starter outside of Bowe, was a standout in Baltimore and showed some big play ability, he is still young and has some potential...Granted their offense isn't going to be high powered or anything, but I will be keeping him on my watch list all year as the guy to emerge as the other WR option.

As far as Croyle, he has the physical aspect down, has a cannon, can make all the throws, but he needs to get the mental aspect down, and show some toughness/leadership...I don't think anyone questions his ability to make all the throws, but there is alot more that goes into it then just that, but he does have the gun slinger mentality who can be dangerous...Seems like everyone wants to call him a bust and say he sucks even though he played behind a horrible line with no LJ, but I'm not ready to call him that just yet...Lets see if Albert pans out as a LT and gives him time, and LJ can stay healthy, and see what he becomes, but you certainly can't form an opinion off what he had to work with last year...Drew Brees would of been trash playing with what he had around him and blocking for him.

Chiefs quarterback developing a bond with wide receiver Dwayne Bowe
By JEFFREY FLANAGAN
The Kansas City Star

So, who does Dwayne Bowe compare to in terms of other NFL receivers?

“Hmm. Well, I’d probably have to say someone like Plaxico Burress,” Chiefs quarterback Brodie Croyle said Thursday. “(Bowe) is big and physical and comes down with the ball. He’s not like a Randy Moss or a guy who can just burn by you.

“But if you throw it up to him, he’s going to come down with it.”

Croyle is beginning to see a bond forming between him and the Chiefs’ top receiver.

“Definitely. I think we started to see a bit of that last year,” Croyle said. “And then it carried on over into OTAs (organized team activities). We’re getting on the same page. There has to be a trust developing where you know he’s going to be there and he knows I’ll get him the ball.”
