Michael Strahan doesn't appear to be close to announcing his future plans, but there is something the Giants could do to push things along.

They could give him $8 million.

That's the amount Strahan hopes to get from the Giants for what would likely be his final season with the team - and possibly in the NFL - if he decides to return to play in 2008, according to two sources familiar with his situation.

According to si.com's 'truth & rumors' section, the Giants have told Strahan they are willing to give him $6 million:

My gut feeling tells me he's coming back for 1 more year. It's a great feeling to go out on top, but it's also a great feeling to be the defending SB Champs for an entire season. ;-D :-)

I think Strahan should take the $6 and run with it if he wants to play another season. The problem with him asking for 8 million is that the Giants alraedy have Justin Tuck who can slide right in for him if he decides to retire so they really have no need to negotiate.

Tell him what he's won Don Pardo! :-D

That's my guess too. Given that his "fortune" was cut in half I don't see him passing on $6M to play one more year. That's a nice going-away present for his over-the-hill a**.

Hah. Apparently someone did not pay attention during the Super Bowl. Over the hill my... }:-)

I definitely agree that skipping training camp plays a role. Part of me thinks that they should just let the old dude skip it. However, Strahan did not get up to speed until the quarter mark of the season last year and it's hard not to think missing camp played a part in that. On the other hand, Strahan says camp does more harm than good for old players and I don't doubt it.

As for the $8M or whatever he's asking for, I say pay the guy. I know it's easy to say when it's not your money but if the Giants have the cap space available then let this guy ride off into the sunset comfortably. His ex-wife really took it to him and you can make an argument that he has been underpaid over the course of his career. You can't put a dollar amount on what this guy has meant to the organization and its fan base. Class act, one of the greatest Giants ever.
