Agreed 100%. I love how athletes keep on getting one chance after another and they just waste it like this because they keep on thinking they'll get chance after change. It's a shame to see this happen, it really is.
I disagree a bit on this thought. The league did Odell no favors when it suspended him. It is a known fact that people with substance abuse issues, especially those involving alcohol, are much more prone to depression and increased abuse of substances when they are not in a structured environment or they lose their jobs. By keeping Thurman from working the league provided more opportunity for him to relapse.
It is a shame, it really is. A shame to see a man not be able to battle his demons and a shame to see a league that profits from players not try and do as much as it can to provide appropriate treatment.
It's a lose-lose-lose situation. Odell loses, the league loses, and the fans lose.
