Power was restored late yesterday, almost 2 full days without power Then the sump pump backed up and we have some water in the basement.

I hate sump pumps. Parent's house has a battery backup now after a flood a few years back almost flooded the basement when the power went out. Dad had me and my brothers start up a bucket parade. My dad still gets paranoid every time it rains a lot and hovers over the backup, checking the charge on the battery, lol.

Hope you've got flood insurance or at least suffered little damage.

Sump pumps are awesome. The developer of my house didn't put the tile into the bucket and we flooded 6 months after the house was finished. It is truly awesome to finish your basement twice in 1 year.

Well, last night sucked. We had a string of storm cells come through, and they were all centered right on our neighborhood, with the heaviest of the wind and rain hitting us every time. I think I counted six individual storm cells in a four-hour period.

When it all started I saw the first squall and I figured it would blow through and I would be out grilling in about 45 minutes. Then the next one blew up and the next one and on and on, and I ended up skipping dinner last night, sitting in front of the TV angry with the world for these stupid storms.

We ended up with a LOT of rain - 3+ inches in about three hours - and some pretty high winds and a little hail. We're doing OK here but it sounds like there were another series of tornadoes across Nebraska, and of course those Boy Scouts in Iowa got killed/hurt, which is the real tragedy from last night.

This Spring has been teh suck for weather so far. We typically get four inches of rain in June. So far we have nearly double that, and we're not even halfway through the month yet.

Six killed by tornadoes ripping through US Midwest

It got pretty ugly around here last night as Knapp alluded to. I think we were a little further east than the tornadoes went, so we just got a ton of rain.

Yeah, the rain's not a bad thing, but the hail, winds, and tornadoes are awful. I saw that story about the Scout too. Really sad.
