Best Number of League Keepers?

I'm soliciting opinions about what the best number of keepers for a 12-team league would be. I'm leaning toward 3 or 4, but would appreciate others' experience. I'm also asking the league members via a poll.

12-team H2H, .5 ppr, otherwise pretty standard.
Rosters: 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1WR/RB, 1K, 1DEF, 7BE, 2IR

This is a new league, and I want to start it off right. Thanks in advance.

I think 4 is a good number.

I'd add a restriction as well, such as a maximum of 2 per position. This will keep teams from hoarding all the RBs or WRs, thus making the draft more interesting. This is what I do in my keeper.

Another one I am in there are 4 keepers, but you can only have 2 at any one postion. 2,1,1 or 1,1,1,1. In example, 2 RB, 1 WR, and 1 QB; 2 WR, 1 RB, and 1 QB; or 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 WR, and 1 TE.

I have played in Keeper Leagues for years and have had as few as 2 and as many as 14 (seriously...out of an 18 man roster). I agree that 4 seems to be the ideal number. You keep a good core and the pool still has plenty of talent. I also think you should have a contract. Anyone have thoughts on best number of contract years? I am at 4 on that as well.

For a keeper league I like 3 or 4.
