hey guys, yeah its pathetic I'm 16 and I'm only now having my first job interview. But I'm pretty excited about it because I've been wanting to get a job and start making some money of my own, particularly for car insurance(I can't drive unless I pay the insurance) anyways, I was wondering if any of you guys who are far more experienced in this area had an practical tips that could be helpful for one young, slightly nervous guy going for his first job. Thanks guys,
M16a
PSDon't laugh, its at dollar tree, not glamorous, but its a job

I agree that it's pathetic that you're 16. You should really strive to be older than that.
Jokes aside - you'll be fine. Wear clothes appropriate for the interview (like nice pants and a nice buttoned shirt). Take care of all personal hygiene issues. Be friendly to everyone working there that you speak to. Show enthusiasm for the job. Show that you are willing to work.
Don't sweat that it's at Dollar Tree, man. We all have to start somewhere. What's important now is gaining experience and having a good record when you leave there.
My first job was detassling corn. Dollar Tree seems almost glamorous in comparison.
Anyways, don't listen to any of knapp's advice. He's clearly out of touch with current trends in the job hiring market with the advice he gave. Personal hygiene? BO adds character. Appropriate clothes? Leather shows you mean business. Enthusiasm? Apathy is the way to go. Make them think that you don't need the job and they'll scramble to hire you before someone else does. Toss in a couple insults to your interviewer and you'll be running the place within the week.
chillax dude, where some nice close and don't say something really stupid, if they need to hire someone you'll have a job. That's pretty much how most of the "teenage jobs" in my area are. As long as you don't completely embarass yourself (and maybe even if you do) you'll get it.
Just show up on time with your hair combed and teeth brushed and you'll have a job. Oh and don't put the moves on the interviewer...I don't care how cute he is keep your hand to yourself.

Ask for an exorbinant amount of compensation... and when they ask why they should pay someone that much who has no experience, tell them it's because the job is alot harder when you don't know what you're doing.
My first job was at a k-mart, which lasted less than a week. Then I worked at a pet shop. whenever a rodent would bite me, I'd feed it to my python that night.
I have interviewed quite a few people over the years. Here are some things I've seen or heard about from other interviewers that you should avoid:
1. Chewing gum during the interview 2. Text Messaging during the interview (just turn the cellphone off for that matter) 3. Every other word is "um" or "like" 4. Wearing a clip on tie 5. Profanity 6. Insulting a former employer (probably not an issue for you)
I'm preparing for an interview too. It'll probably take me a couple weeks minimum to customize my resume, write a cover letter and fully prepare for it. If I get the job, I'll have a 25% salary increase and will be managing around 100 people. The downside is that it will significantly cut my cafe time during work hours. Then again, even though I like surfing the web and visiting the cafe, I much prefer being busy, so this really isn't a negative. I should be one of the frontrunners, so wish me luck!!!
