I think the "coolest" Av I've ever used was the Tolkien device. I really dig it.

The Gandalf comes from another forum I frequent. You HAVE TO use a cartoon-ish av or none at all. This is the av I use there:



Unfortunately it doesn't fit here because the sword makes it too long.

Bonus points for anyone who can name Gandalf's sword.
