Aloe will work if you give it time. It's a darned good balm. For a more serious burn you may need to start with lanacaine like Scott suggested, then after 24 hours-ish switch to aloe. Use lots.
I'm fair-skinned, and I've gotten second-degree burns from the sun before. It's nothing to mess with.
I understand dude, I went to warped tour yesterday, (about twenty degrees cooler than last year thankfully) and did wear sunscreen but my face still got it pretty good, it makes it difficult to get comfortable while sleeping that's for sure.
Even in the day of melanoma I always "forget" to put on sunscreen (At least my first time out). Well I paid for it today; I was on a boat and started to snooze off. Long story short my stomach now looks like it was painted a nice salmon mousse colour. Anyways, I'm fried.
I'm going on a long flight tomorrow, and I really don't feel like squirming in my seat the entire time. Any ways to dull the pain? I tried that Aloe Vera stuff, but it doesn't seem to work. Plus it makes me feel like a girl.
see if you can find the aerosol cans of Lanacane - I think it's called solarcaine. The aerosol comes out really cold which feels nice, plus it has the topical anesthetic that normal lanacaine does to help with the pain. Also, if you're using the aloe gel stuff, keep it in the fridge to cool it. Personally I don't care for aloe either, it's too thick and gums up when using alot of it.
There's really no cure for a sunburn other than time, but you know that. As far as the pain and the flight, Dr. Scott recommends you drink moderate to heavily.
That stuff takes the pain away as soon as it hits. It is the Stuff. The real good stuff has some aloe it also. Go to your nearest drug store and ask the Pharmacist which is the best.

Solarcane is great stuff. I think the topical anesthetic it has is called Lidocaine(sp?). It works for bug bites or burns. Grab a can of that and you should be fine
