Tried one of the specials today at the cafeteria. Called 'Bangkok Chicken Rice Bowl' the description was something like 'black bean and garlic marinated chicken over jasmine-seasoned rice with spicy peanut butter sauce.' Price $4.99. A coworker and I decided to give it a try.
It was a two strips of dry/overcooked chicken on burnt wooden skewers, a rice blend with no real flavor and veggies that were limp and missing all their color and texture, and the sauce tasted like turpentine blended with a Reese's cup. We both threw away two thirds of it.
Aramark for the fail.
That kind of reminds me of the downstairs coffee shop in the building I used to work in. During my first couple of weeks working there, I discovered that they served Korean food specials each day (it's Korean owned) and one of them is Bulgogi Pork (basically grilled pork in a hot chili sauce and peppercorns). I was disappointed that the meat didn't look like quality and it was overcooked. A waste of $7 unfortunately. They also had Kung Pao Chicken oddly enough, but it looked like Kung Pao Chicken salad given that there's a lot of greens and the chicken looks like it came from a can (it was really dry) while the dish itself didn't have much flavor. Never ate there again.
