Wallpaper Removal...what a job!

Well started tackling the MBR Bath yesterday...following the sage advice of the helpful guys in orange (Home Depot) the job has been a lot easier than expected!

DIF is a must have (about $6.00 a bottle) ...spray on after you get the top layer of paper off the wall...take about 10 minutes to pentrate the adhesive layer then scrapes right off

Scraper, yep a 4 - 6 inch blade scraper works wonders

The scorer not really necessary

Any other ideas on how to?

Wallpaper removal blows donkeys.

I've done it a few times and the first time wasn't too bad but recently we removed one of those lame 12" borders that grandmas like to put up at the top of the wall. It had like teddy bears and crap on it...it was like teddy bear picnic in my room everyday.

Anyway whoever put it on there did it when the all was just primered or some crap because when we used that junk to take it off it wanted to take the texture off...oh yeah I think that was part of the problem too they put the all paper on a textured wall. Wallpaper should be outlawed BTW.

We have used vinegar in a spray bottle before as well and it seemed to work OK without taking off the texture. It gave me the worst headache I think I have ever had though.

Burn the house down and start over. I started that project once and then got smart and paid to have it done.

yeah about as least fun I've had in awhile...whoever put it up pieced it together like crap anyway. Hdg out to get some more DIF and spray and scrape, spray and scrape...

only real b**** about this is its a vaulted ceiling and probably 10 foot at the highest point...have to pickup a step ladder too! Well you always need a step ladder for other things anyway.

...oh and absolutely agree...outlaw the crap known as wallpaper!

I am guessing he is saying the wall at the ceiling peak is 10 ft., but I could be wrong.

Oh crap I forgot to mention that Shannon used liquid fabric softener to get it off before, I think she sponged it on, waited a few minutes and then scraped it off. She said it worked pretty well and unlike vinegar it wont give you a headache.

I have removed wallpaper before. It's horrendous. People who buy wallpaper should be shot as they leave Home Depot. It's ridiculous. Our first house's basement was pretty much entirely wallpapered. It took forever to get that stuff off. This house, the former owners thought wallpaper border was a really neat accent, and they put it in every room. I still have to take it off of the downstairs bathroom, the wife's office and the family room. I did the living room, master bedroom, kitchen and upstairs bathroom already.

Seriously - if you think wallpaper is for you, maybe home ownership is NOT for you.
