Best IDP Scoring Method

Postby ninremix » Mon Jul 07, 2008 8:20 pm

I am trying to find out how to choose a scoring system that allows for IDP to have similar value to Offensive players. I have taken a look at some of the numbers from last year using off/def scoring methods(see below).

Results: (.xls attached)
-Of all the positions (on average) LB score the highest
-of all the positions LB has highest avg (282pts) and DL have lowest (177pts) while RB,DB,WR,QB seem to be similar to each other around 230.
-Top Offensive players are more important than defensive because the difference between the #1 and #30 player:
offense = 229pts
defense = 92pts

*Tom Brady and Randy Moss were excluded from test because their numbers were too extreme 100pts higher than #2 player at their position)

I propose to even thing out with the defensive scoring by:

* 1.5 points per solo tackle, .75 points per assisted tackle, 5 points per sack
* 4 points per forced fumble, 4 points per fumble recovery
* 5 points per interception, 3 points per pass defensed
* 6 points per touchdown, 2 points per safety

It seems there might be a couple problems because LB do a bit of everything. If we raise SACK and INT it will help the DL and DB catch up the LB a bit (DL will stlil lag behind) ... Possibly raising SACK and INT up to 6 points but you might have to higher DTD. This is under the assumption than we are trying to make Def/Off even. Raising IDP number will deffinently effect the outcomes of games with this scoring system. The typical IDP numbers used for Fantasy I have seen are in the past:

* 1.5 points per solo tackle, .75 points per assisted tackle, 4 points per sack
* 4 points per forced fumble, 4 points per fumble recovery
* 5 points per interception, 1.5 points per pass defensed
* 6 points per touchdown, 2 points per safety

Not sure there is anything we can do to adjust the gabs between off/def ... QB is fine since we only start 1 but all the other positions (LB,DL,DB,RB,WR) we start 2.
