ORTON!

He actually didn't do that bad of a job considering what he had to work with his rookie year when Rexy was broked up.

Rex, Kyle in stalemate as Bears break camp
And that's bad news for an offense that needs someone to step forward

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- When the Bears rolled into town brimming with optimism 23 days ago, they came in search of answers.

The one thing they wanted most is the thing they can't seem to get: one quarterback to step up and grab the starting job. They've talked ad nauseam about the need for consistency and efficiency, which is code for wanting someone to make the decision as clear to the team as it is to the viewing public.

The biggest question of all -- who will play quarterback? -- is as confusing as ever. Unless you're wearing the secret decoder ring, a glimpse into the coaching staff's evaluation of Rex Grossman vs. Kyle Orton is impossible.

''I really don't,'' offensive coordinator Ron Turner said when asked if he has a sense of who's ahead.

And the neckbeard wins!!

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/HeadLi ... &hl=120249
Bears name Kyle Orton opening-day starter

The Bears confirmed Monday that Kyle Orton will be their starter in Week 1 against the Colts.

Don't expect him to last long. Orton will be on a short leash, has beatable LT John St. Clair guarding his blind side, and gets unfavorable matchups (@ Indy, @ Carolina, vs. Tampa Bay, and vs. Philadelphia) in the first four weeks. The Bears are likely to use multiple starting QBs during the season, be it due to injury or poor play. Orton's completion rate (63.2) through two preseason games is solid, but his yards per attempt average (5.2) is dreadful and he's thrown no touchdown passes. Aug. 18 - 4:07 pm et

Ugh.... Orton sucks. So does Gorssman, but at least he has potential. Here's the Bears offense for you:

1st down: Forte carries for a yard.
2nd down: Fote carries for 2 yards.
3rd down: Screen to Hester for 5 yards.
4th down: Punt

Repeat (with "screen to Hester" being replaced by "dump to Forte/Peterson/Lloyd/Booker/Olsen, and the occasional 1st down "pass to Desmond Clark for 3 yards", and maybe once or twice a game you'll see a first down or field goal on 4th down....)

This has been the game plan since '98.

Kyle Orton = Bears Opening Day QB

Postby knapplc » Tue Aug 19, 2008 11:08 am

Kyle Orton has beaten out Rex Grossman as the Bears' Opening Day QB.

You may now return to ignoring all facets of the Chicago passing game in your fantasy drafts. Carry on.

What happened to Lovie Smith's, "Rex Grossman is our QB"?

Lovie Smith is notoriously dishonest and disingenuous with the media.

But we've known since at least this past Spring that it would be a competition between Grossman and Orton for the starting gig.

Yay 200 yard passing per game tops. Yay 3 and outs. Football is fun to watch.

Aren't you glad we didn't draft a QB this year? I mean, we're stacked, right?
