Setting 1yr League - Is more than 1 QB a bad idea ?

Postby coolgoose » Mon Jul 28, 2008 11:48 pm

Fantasy Gurus,

This is my first FF league as a Commish. Its a 12 team league...

Following is the roster setting:
QB -2
WR - 3
RB - 2
TE - 1
K -1
DEF - 2
BN - 4

Here are my qtns:
1. I thought of adding some complexity and bit of balance by going for 2 QBs and 2 Defences, so that someone with a top QB doesnt has a distinct advantage...and people have an opportunity to balance things by having 2 mediocre QBs or RB's or DEF. Is it a bad idea?

2. Should I reduce the WRs to 2 and add a WR/RB position instead?

What is your suggestion regarding the position settings?

Cut back to 1 QB and 1 DEF only.

If you want to add a twist, consider adding an NFL head coach as another starting positon.

I am not a fan of 2QB and 2DEF, but in a 12 team league it can be done without too much complaining from the league. At least you are a commish who has a valid explanation for your reason of requiring starting 2 at each position.

If you want to change to starting 1QB and 1DEF you could counter by requiring all teams to carry 2QB, 2DEF, 2K, and 2TE on their rosters at all times. These are positions that teams may regularly only carry 1 of each. By requiring 2 you can essentially create a little more parity being that there will be less RBs and WRs drafted.

I am not a fan of starting 3WR. I am a fan of the FLEX instead. Also with the FLEX consider allowing all positions other than QB. Although it will normally be a RB or WR it gives owners a little more flexibility. I have seen a team start a K and a DEF at FLEX under these rules, so it is not that unlikely.

This part I agree with - the rest? Well, that's prolly a bit far-fetched even jokingly :-D

Really no need to have more than 1 def in your starting line-up. As for 2 QB, I'm not opposed to it, but in a 12 team league you are going to have some issues and maybe even some disinterested owners come bye weeks. You are looking at starting 24 QBs a week and some weeks there will be just that, with the likes of someone having to start a Cleo Lemon :-* :-P

QBs are not that much of an advantage that you need to level the playing field by starting 2. Why is the main consensus to wait for drafting a QB, because there is not much of a difference in them. Sure a record year like Brady makes him a huge advantage but that doesn't happen every year.

As for the head coach...again :-t :-P

Thanks for more valuable input guys...I would run your suggestions as a Poll through the league and probably just reduce QB's to 1 only.

DEF for sure I am reducing to 1. There is a consensus in my league as well regarding this.

Thanks Again :)

Ditto the Cleo Lemon thing. Injuries will ravage owners QBs. Some guys will have 4 QBs on their team as insurance and that will leave some poor sap without a waiver wire option. Especially with 12 teams.
