Creating a scoring system for the FB position

Postby spodog » Tue Jul 29, 2008 4:42 pm

We've been thinking about adding FB as a seperate position form RB and are brainstorming scoring formats for this position.

To score it identically to an RB position does not really value good NFL fullbacks correctly, but it is a difficult position to quantify the value purely by traditional statistics.

We were thinking something that would take into account:

1. Points based upon the total rushing yards gained for the NFL team in the game
2. Possibly points based upon 3rd down conversions (for the NFL team)
3. Points for traditional stats - Yards Rushing for the FB, TD's and 2 Pt Conversions for the FB

Anyone ever tried to create a scoring profile for a FB position?

Ideas?

It's interesting, but you're kind of getting into the brass tacks of fantasy scoring here. I mean, why just the FB? The kind of scoring you're talking about relies as much on the O-Line as the FB, at least for 3rd down conversions and the total rushing yards gained for the NFL team.

The other thing is, which site is going to have those scoring rules for you? Have you found one to do that or are you thinking of going back to the days of the spreadsheets?

You're right, but drafting O-Line's is too boring for my league mates. They wouldn't do it.

As for the software, I guess we are assuming we can do just about anything on MFL, but we'll have to check it. We likely won't put this in until 2009 anyway, just knocking ideas around.

The problem you have is the "Fullback" designation is tough to gauge. Think about Alstott or Wycheck, who both carried the FB designation for years. Cooley did one year as well.
