For some reason, I felt like letting you guys know about this . . . .
Some years ago, I had this flirty thing going on with this really cute gal named Jenny at a company that I was doing some work for. We'd get lunch, go for drinks casually, but nothing really moving very far along very quickly. I think we were both kind of playing the cat and mouse game a little waiting for the other to set up the first real date.
One Wednesday evening while this was going on, I went out and played a game of tennis with my roommate Jeff. During the game, I rushed the net, and the tennis ball managed to glance off the center post at a weird angle, then off my racket and went right into my eye before I could react. I ended up having to go the Emergency Room, then to the optometrist the next morning. Ended up with a corneal abrasion. The doc put a patch on it, and told me to cover both eyes as much as possible for the first week to let it heal up. Well, I basically had to ignore that and just leave the one patch on, because you can't see with both eyes covered.
When I wasn't at work, Jenny asked around, found out what happened, called my place and said she was sorry to hear what happened and that she would like to make me dinner and bring it over to me that night.
When my roomate got home, I had him help me out a little, by asking him to find other plans for the evening, and then I had him help me scatter some aspirin and a few other things around on the coffee table to make it look like I had been alone just feeling my way around the apartment with two eye patches on. Just before Jenny got there that evening, I put the 2nd eye patch back on and did a little moaning as she walked in, really playing up the pain.
Anyway, it worked out great, since gals are real suckers for injured guys. It really plays to their nuturing instincts.
Anyone else every work the sympathy angle to their advantage?
