I saw the first, second and fourth movies. They would be pretty good by themselves but I've read the books so whenever I watch the movies I just keep thinking to myself "they left this out here" or "I would have done that differently."

If I watch a movie before I read the book I tend to enjoy both, but if I read the book first I tend to not enjoy the movie as much. I guess I'll check out the fifth movie since Treat loves it so much.

Same. I always like to read the book first. I've not read/seen any of the Harry Potter stuff but based on the feedback here I think I might be missing out on something good. (Sorta like how I didn't play fantasy football before Y2K because I thought 'fantasy football is just sports Dungeons and Dragons.)
