My draft program - suggestions needed!

Postby jaymez_11 » Mon Aug 04, 2008 6:02 pm

Here is a program I have been working on for a little bit just so I can learn C#. Basically each year I do my draft based off a spreadsheet in Excel. This starts to get messy trying to keep up with the draft, find players and the next best people based off position. So I spent about 10 hours writing this puppy.

- You do your rankings by excel (this is always the best tool I find) to build by position or by overall rank. Also the rankings change via your league rules so my rankings change per draft.
- When the draft starts point to the file and load and it does the analysis.
- You can mark players as picked by either you or someone else
- Bye week alerts are highlighted in red.
- You can filter positions (so if you are only allowed 2 QB's for example - these can be removed from the list once you have them)
- You can backup the file to excel so you can feel safe half way through your draft.
- You can filter by position and the list is automatically filtered for each keystoke so finding players is easy.
(there is more stuff but this is the basics).

I am not looking to sell this thing - I just enjoy programming on stuff I enjoy. So if you have a suggestion please make it and I will try to add it. If you make a suggestion and would like a copy please let me know as this is a work in progress.

It looks pretty sweet, would love to test it out. I can't really think of any options you need for it without giving it a mock run through :-)

My only suggestion is that if you are in ongoing year to year league would be to see how each player scored in that league from years past based upon each leagues specific scoring. To be able to see that next to the player would be helpful... Otherwise it looks pretty cool... I'd gladly mess around with it if you are willing.. ;-D

HA! I fixed the spelling mistake. Many thanks to the suggestions. I have thought about doing the following:
- injuries (highlighting an injured / suspended player)
- contract year
- "sleeper" option where you mark a player as a sleeper so you can remind yourself in the later rounds.

thanks gents!

The injury feature would be pretty neat actually...if you could separate minor and major injuries (one is highlighted red, the other is orange, etc), that would be even better. Of course there would be some subjectivity on your part for what is considered a minor or major injury, but if you are willing to research it you would save a lot of time on draft day wondering who is still hurt as well as having to look up injury info on draft day.

Sounds like a really cool program man. Can't say for sure without trying it out, but it sounds like a great idea.
