NFL announces new fan code of conduct The Associated Press 2:38 PM CDT, August 5, 2008
NEW YORK - The NFL implemented a new code of fan conduct Tuesday, warning that spectators who misbehave will be ejected from stadiums and barred from coming back.
The policy, first recommended by commissioner Roger Goodell at league meetings in April, is aimed at conduct that the league said "detracts from the gameday experience."
It includes bans on:
• Behavior that is unruly, disruptive, or illegal.
• Drunkenness and signs of alcohol impairment that result in irresponsible behavior.
• Foul or abusive language or obscene gestures.
• Interference with the progress of the game, including throwing objects onto the field.
• Failing to follow instructions of stadium personnel.
• Verbal or physical harassment of fans from the opposing team.
I'm getting more than a little sick of everything being "for the children" and "family friendly." Now as an Eagles fan I know somethings are patently absurd. On the other hand, not every last darn thing needs to be so sanitized. I mean fighting, people throwing stuff, etc., is obviously not allowed. Language though? gimmie a break. Especially since the stadiums are in many cases at least in part publicly funded and maintained. Verbal harrassment of fans of the opposing team? Please. The fighting fans of other team is so stupid. But heckling? I don't get it.

not going to happen. drinking during tailgating is one reason that the game is so popular. they encourage the tribalism element of fandom, tailgating is a storied practice, the persona of that type of fan was hyped on the MNF intro, and the beer ads are absurd. The NFL plays into the "man's man" element so hard, then they would crack down on getting drunk? I doubt it. The other sports don't scream "special event" quite like a football game, as they aren't as frequent.
