Leagues with milestone bonuses

Postby MotorCityKitties » Wed Aug 06, 2008 5:36 pm

It seems that this has been more popular in the last few years. A point bonus if your RB/WR/TE surpasses 150yds, or your QB throws for 300+ or 400+, etc. I recently joined a 2 QB league that gives a 15 pt bonus for surpassing 400 yds passing. Five points are awarded for passing TD's, but all the rest of the stats are similar to a standard Yahoo Public league.

How many of you play in these kinds of leagues and how do you approach drafting in leagues with these kinds of bonuses?

I don't think you should draft any differently, in my opinion.

I never really liked these kinds of leagues, myself. If your RB runs for 150 yards that means he already had a great day and should be getting you a lot of points already.

couldn't agree more.

player a gets 150 yards
player b gets 149 yards

it seems pathetic to give player a let's say 5 extra or something for 1 yard. milestone leagues are weak :-t

Exactly ;-D

And I don't think they are becoming all that more popular, most leagues used to be set up this way, then fractional scoring came in and most leagues have moved to that.

Both my leagues have milestones, but mostly because we have always had them. They aren't huge bonuses. (+1 point for 100 yards rushing/receiving or 300 yards passing, etc.).

Basically, they help offset guys who get a lot of yardage but few TDs. (TDs are really random as well. You can get a some players who are yardage eaters and put the team in position to score, only to be pulled for a goal-line package).

Maybe, but TDs are more valuable in real football so it should be slanted that way. A player who gets 100 yards isnt that much more valuable then one that gets 90.

One point bonuses are fine, but the big ones (5-8 each) are insane.

we used to have that in one league but we dropped it...i dont really miss it

i dont like leagues where you get a bonus for length of TD either (i.e. 0-20 yd TD = 6, 21-40 = 7, etc)

Never been a fan of milestone bonuses. If you want to add scoring or a gimmick to a league I much rather prefer to add return yards. Not nearly as flukey.
