This year's Romo

Postby TheMurph5263 » Mon Aug 11, 2008 3:16 pm

Last year at my draft I waited longer than I should have to get myself a QB, every time I picked there was a player I couldnt pass up, by time I picked a QB most of the other teams already had their backup...I was left to choose between Leftwich and Tony Romo, as an Eagles fan in a draft filled with die hard Eagles fans picking Romo was painful but I did it and I was so pissed he was my QB and didnt expect much from him, boy was I wrong...one championship later I had the last laugh.

My question is who could be this year's Romo - a late round QB sleeper that could really do some damage in fantasy. My vote goes to David Garrard though he certainly doesnt have the recievers Romo had, I think he will have a great year and can get him in the later rounds.

what do you think?

*Romo was the 15th Qb taken in my draft - so Im looking for somebody in the 12-18 QB taken range

Many know my affinity for Garrard. I agree with ya Murph. WT's list has potential as well.

Romo wasn't going that low last year. About 10th qb taken or so. If that's what you're judging against, target McNabb or Cutler.

If you're looking for a very late pick, people are really sour on Leinart but really he has the same potential he always has and now has had a lot of downtime to study the new offense.

Two guys I see lasting a while who I think can breakout this year are Matt Schuab and Matt Leinart. Both have plenty of weapons to have big seasons. They just need to stay healthy adn so do their WRs.

I dunno if Popcynical's post was a jibe at Rodgers or not but I have a feeling that he may do quite well this season. People constantly knock him by saying he hasn't started a NFL game and that he's unproven and he can't stay healthy but last year's performance against Dallas when he stepped in for Favre was impressive. He has a great set of receivers and I think that he can produce some really good numbers this year.

TJack is the bomb. No really, I think he'll bomb. :~(

Going with Treat.

Delhomme and Leinart have the tools, but they have had a number of years to figure it out already.

I don't like Garrard so much for the fact that Jacksonville runs the ball so much. If 3,300yds and 24 TDs is what you are looking for then ok, he's your guy. If that's all you are looking for out of your QB position then ok. I'm not getting too excited about the 9 TDs in last 4 regular season games either. Then he subsequently went 9 for 21 for a TD and 2 picks against the Steelers, which I attribute to the Steelers adjusting their defensive schemes.

I'm not sure why people are so enamored with Schaub either. 9TDs and 9 picks in 11 games and injured twice. I'll expect some growth from him sure but more I wouldn't expect much more than 3,500 yards and 20TDs this year.

For my money, the guy you want is Delhomme.
