Saints: They'll be marching in all right
Aug. 12, 2008

Nothing is more American than a high-powered offense.

The New Orleans Saints know how to run one. It's quick, explosive and thrilling, and it's poised to be even better this season.

The Saints ranked fourth in the NFL in total offense in 2007. New Orleans added Jeremy Shockey, who is among the elite tight ends in the league when he puts his mind to it, for '08.

Drew Brees has been a picture of consistency under head coach Sean Payton. Brees is poised for another monster season, and that will be helped by the arrival of Shockey and the continued development of Marques Colston, who is officially among the league's elite. Colston has averaged double-digit scores in each of his first two years in the league, and there's no reason to think that'll change.

The only question mark is running back, where Reggie Bush appears ready for a bounce-back season. Common sense says he'll get the majority of the carries with Deuce McAllister coming off surgery on both knees, but Bush hasn't shown the ability to be an every-down back. Still, Bush is a solid fantasy contributor in other ways (receptions, returns), and it'll be interesting to see who claims most of the carries.

Whoever it is won't slow down the Saints' attack. Neither will opposing defenses. When draft day rolls around ignoring the playmakers on this offense isn't just un-American, it's downright foolish.
