Defensive Scoring

Postby brett5673 » Sat Aug 16, 2008 12:49 am

ive never seen this before, but i was wondering if this changes how i value D's

You start out with 10 points for no points allowed and 10 points for 0 yards allowed

And trickles down like this

2-6 allowed 8 pts
7-13 6 pts
14-17 5 pts
17-21 4 pts
22-27 2 pts

And yards
0-100 10 pts
100-199 8 pts
200-299 6 pts
300-349 4 pts
350399 2 pts

Ive never come by this before, but im thinking it doesnt matter too much, im just double checkin cause the draft is tomorrow let me know either way thanks

Basically it just neuters Def. Scoring. If you cant score for TD/Sack/INT then I wouldnt even consider taking a Def until the end (normally there are 2-3 Ill reach a couple rounds for).

I mean, a very good defense gives up at least 14/200 every week and I would guess the elites only average 1-2 more points a week then a mediocre def.

that is almost standard defensive scoring for yards and points allowed... (the yards are a tad different) ... and i hate it... just wait kilroy will come in and talk about how it is the greatest scoring since sliced bread...

do you not get any points for tds, ints, fum, sacks ... etc???

ok, then it is very very close to standard defensive scoring... which i completely dislike.

to answer your question, nah... it shouldn't really affect your rankings much or where you draft your defense. You will find that the top 15 defenses will all easily be in the top 50 scorers in your league. Ahead of many QBs RBs and WRs. The thought process on whoever deemed this scoring as standard was to make offense and defense more even... way too many sites followed suit. Your defensive yards allowed is tweaked down from standard... but it's still dumb.

The main thing to remember is that you can matchup play defenses quite easily and sometimes, oftentimes even, top defenses don't always perform (see Bears of last year... they were going as high as 5th, 6th, 7th rounds) ....

Just grab a solid D near the end of the draft and play the waivers for matchups if you need to.

alright, looking at the projections from the xcoring, i see D's are scoring a lot. but they ALL are and thats the key. If you went soley off points youd make sure Tom Brady/Manning was first every year. Maybe ill let him know that the Yardage thing should be trashed. Before he had it that D's started out with 20 points and barely got knocked off for allowing points, which was flat out rediculous. Whatever
