When reading about your team, which local paper do you use?

Postby biju » Tue Aug 19, 2008 11:27 am

While I like the snippets of information that rotoworld, fanball, and kffl provide, I noticed that they don't provide as much information (or at least the depth I want) about my own home team. I go to my local papers for that information. Seattle has two major newspapers that provide adequate information about the Seahawks:

Seattle PI
Seattle Times

and generally when I'm looking for in-depth information on another team I will turn to google. Say I want to know about the Vikings. I usually search for "Minneapolis newspaper" or "Minnesota newspaper" and get decent results. I suspect people would do a similar search for the Seahawks. What that search does not turn up however is the best source for Seahawks news. That exists in a Tacoma (a city 30 miles south of Seattle) newspaper:

Tacoma News Tribune

What is the best news source for your team? Let's all share and become better informed as a group...

Great Topic!

1st Choice: Minneapolis Star Tribune
2nd Choice: St.Paul Pioneer Press

Prefer the startrib by a lot personally.

For the Steelers:

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (use this one much less than Post-Gazette)

Treat already linked it, but the Minneapolis Star Tribune is my favorite newspaper in the Twin Cities for Vikings information. They're pretty in-depth and I like the beat writers they employ. I generally avoid both big newspapers sports sections because for various reasons, but the Strib is decent for Vikings stuff.

:-)

I should have stated that the Trib is better for Vikes info in my post, I completely agree with bb24 here, he is dead on: i prefer the tribs beat writers as well. Personally, I like the Startrib better for almost all the sections, not just Vikes stuff. Just a better all around paper IMO.

Oh, and since I live in DC, I figure I might as well provide some sources there:

Washington Post
Washington Times

My family subscribes to the Post, so I don't read a ton of the Times, but the Times beat reporter for the Skins lives only a couple blocks from me and is a great writer; he's been there for almost 2 decades and is a voter in the pro football HOF. They're both good for sports coverage even though the Post gets a lot more readership. I'm sure someone who actually follows the Redskins can provide a lot more than I can.
