Playing IDP for 1st time....?

I'm playing in a league with a 1 player IDP for the first time, around where do you start thinking of taking a guy?

Is it a Def & K type situation, or do you go earlier?

Yes, typically you want to wait until your offense is set. At least your starters. However, if you're only starting one IDP, I would treat it like any other position and look for best value. You want a stud if possible. Just don't sacrifice a stud on offense to get one.

Keep in mind...for the most part, values for IDP change from season to season. So, even if you don't land one of the marquee players, just watch your WW once in season, and look for any players ranked high in FP/G, and upgrade if necessary.

Also, focus on a MLB's. They're like the RB's of IDP. They rack up tackles (and assists), and get you the occasional pick, sack or pass defended.

Only one IDP??? What a tease. You should talk your league manager about making it at least three.

Makes it impossible to draft anthing other than a LB, although a couple of guys always go with a Jared Allen/ Champ Bailey type

All depends entirely on your scoring system, but.........

Jon Beason and Patrick Willis would be the top 2 choices i would think.

I waited until the 12th round of our 16 round 12 team draft to get my IDP guy.

So what? Willis' tackles go from a ridonkulous 174 to what? Say 125-130? Ryans had 128 in '07.

Assuming he stays healthy Willis' floor is everyone else's ceiling, and the fact that SF has been working with more 4-3 alignments can only help. He's the #1 IDP, and it ain't close.
