Tony Scheffler vs Owen Daniels

Postby cordscords » Sun Aug 24, 2008 2:03 am

I have been eyeing these 2 TE's, but keep going back and forth on who to go with first.

I'm leaning towards Scheff seeing as he could get more looks with Marshalls suspension. Whats the general consensus around here about these 2 guys?

I really like Scheff, but I get the feeling that he's a risky pick, with the injury troubles and all. I'm less confident in Denver's passing attack then Houston's. Daniels is probably the safer pick and he still has similar upside to Scheff.

I like Scheff alot more, he put up 50/500/5 last year, and I can see all of those numbers increasing by quite a bit, Cutler looks to him quite a bit, especially early on in the season he should get quite a few looks...The one deciding factor to me is that Scheff is a much better redzone target, and he really will go up and get some of those jump ball situations...If anything thats why I rate Scheffler higher, he will probably score more TD's and I love his upside.

Scheffler will score more and Daniels production seemed to coincide with AJ being hurt.

is Scheff a no-brainer pick over Ben Watson?

I wouldn't say no-brainer but I think NE has too many other redzone options to make Watson a good pick.

Agreed, Watson's looks from game to game will be very inconsistent.

I think it comes down to Watson's health. He started out on fire last year, then got hurt and was a non-factor until the Div Champ game against Jax. I think if he stays healthy he would outproduce Scheffler in the TD department. When you are down to TE's like this that's usually what I'm looking for.

As teams start to employ the 'shut down Moss' strategy Watson might find himself that much more in Brady's sights.

They are pretty close, but I would probably go Watson just based on NE's offense. There's more risk (I think Cutler will have a good year and Scheff will do fine) but I would roll the dice at TE.

I'd target V Davis, LJ Smith or G Olsen over Daniels or Watson.

I hear Martz wants to use Davis more like a receiver. I agree with the cafe article about LJ, and Olsen has looked pretty good in preseason, and had a really good second half last year.

I think all those guys will see more end zone tosses than Daniels or Watson.
