So Leinart was awful Saturday...who is starting for AZ?

Postby Azrael » Sun Aug 24, 2008 5:12 pm

Matt Leinart completed almost as many passes to the other team as he did his own guys in about a quarter and a half and Kurt Warner got in about 2 series in a week where the starters were supposed to play most of the game.

So what's going on in Arizona? Who do you think is going to come out of this the starter? Leinart's gotten worse each week and Warner's barely been given a chance to play so far. My gut says the coaches want Leinart to take this job over so bad but it's obvious he's not ready and Warner did a marvelous job last year when Leinart went down.

Update per Rotoworld:

Kurt Warner-QB- Cardinals Aug. 24 - 12:01 pm et

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that the Cardinals will name Kurt Warner their starting quarterback to open the season. Matt Leinart blew it Saturday, tossing three picks and finishing with a 2.8 QB rating. The Cards are concerned with Leinart's arm strength, which has never been his best quality, and consistency. Warner won't be on a long leash, but gives Arizona its best chance to win, by a clear margin. Expect coach Ken Whisenhunt to confirm Mort's report on Monday. Warner is a high-upside and recommended QB2 pick. His promotion is good news for Larry Fitzgerald.

I think you're dead on Az. The coaches and F.O. want Leinart to win the job so bad and to be the face of the franchise he was drafted to be, but how many chances can the guy be given for him to continue to poop the bed as he's done? Warner's not flashy but when he's been given the chance he's done well, better than Leinart anyway. Let the old guy play.

Warner will start. Which is friggin' awesome since I just picked Warner up in round 17. Cardinals passed for more than 4,000 yards as a team last year. Now if Boldin will just sign.

He is signed for 3 or 4 more years. They are not giving him a new deal and they are not trading him. He may not want to be there, but that is where he is going to play. Acting like an idiot will get him no where, so I expect him to shut his mouth and play ball for now

All Warner needs is a little time in the pocket. The guy is a dead eye passing the ball. He will definitely be on my teams somewhere this year.

Now that Warner's the starter, what's his value fantasy wise as a QB? Low end number 1? I just want some opinions as of now as I've got Hass and Favre and I'm wondering if Warner is an upgrade over either one of them.

I wouldn't say he's an upgrade over either but he might be right there with them if he can stay healthy and keep Leinart on the bench.
