A plan. :-D

Seriously though, you just need to come in more prepared. Come with a cheat sheet and a firm understanding of your league rules. It also doesn't hurt to do a few mocks before your draft just to get a feel where players are going.

Apply liberally just before the draft for best results:

And make sure your cheatsheet is long enough - the more guys in your league and the bigger each team's roster is, the bigger your cheatsheet needs to be. You don't want to get to the latter rounds of draft and have everyone on your cheatsheet taken and then you're scrambling to try and figure who to take and who's available - that's one mistake a lot of beginners make.

Good luck! ;-D

Bring freshly printed cheat sheets from an online source. Don't rely on magazines as they tend to become outdated very quickly, not having the latest injuries taken into account, and so on.
