Aug. 28, 2008
WHAT'S NEW
We can't talk about what's new with the Seahawks without first talking about the absence of Shaun Alexander. The franchise's running back for the past eight seasons wasn't invited back after a disappointing '07. As a matter of fact, he wasn't invited anywhere -- the former Pro Bowler still is available if you need a 30-something running back or want to hire some entertainment for your kid's birthday party.
Even though Alexander is no longer in Seattle, the team doesn't expect to miss a beat on its quest for a fifth consecutive NFC West title. QB Matt Hasselbeck is still in the picture, and the team will stick with its West Coast offense, so the fantasy points should come in bunches again.
If you're looking for a sleeper in Seattle this season, it probably won't be new RB Julius Jones, who figures to be the starter out of the gate. Nor will it be No. 1 WR Bobby Engram (right shoulder), who's expected to miss at least the first four weeks of the season. Instead, target Nate Burleson, who will fill Engram's shoes as the team's go-to receiver while he's out. Burleson should build on his '07 stats (50-694-9) and will be Seattle's most likely option to break out, especially given Seattle's easy early-season schedule.
