Newbie to Fantasy Football

Postby munestar32 » Wed Sep 10, 2008 4:55 pm

So this is my first year playing fantasy football and my first week went well, though I can't help but wonder if it is due to luck or that I am actually learning something as I scour the news and sports network sites. I was wondering what stats/news/misc I should be looking at and if there are any tips/hints for researching this stuff besides just asking people "Who do I play?" It isn't that I don't like the advice because I do, I just want to learn how to pick for myself eventually and to do that I need to learn where to find the information I need until I learn who all these players are! :-)

I watch NFL Sunday Countdown, the Fox Pregame Show and NFL Primetime. There's also the NFL network, but their commentators and formatting are so-so. You could also google the fan forums for the various teams of players you're targeting, and find the posts of reputable posters to get an idea of how the player is team is doing from a fan perspective (beware though, as Cowherd says, fan stands for fanatic and oftentimes fans aren't very rational). On these fan forum pages you could also scan the articles by beat writers for more insight into the dynamics of a team/player.

I just try to watch as much football as I can.

The best thing to do is watch the games.

Matchups are easy if you know a team got burnt last week for 150 yards on the ground.

As far as who to add and drop, you can look at the topics in the Draft Trade Keeper Waivers forum to see whos hot and whos not.

Check the start and sit column right here for last minute decisions.

YES!!!! Watch as much as you can. Eventually, you will get to the point where you will appreciate the additional information, but will be able to formulate your own informed opinion, because you will have become so smart on it.
